Activities include:

An in-person meet-up on September 18th at Maui Brewing Company. This is an opportunity to connect with MVRA Board Members, Airbnb’s policy and advocacy team, and hear the latest updates on Mayor Bissen's proposal to phase out short-term rentals.

An alliance with other organizations involved in the short-term rental industry and a PR specialist to reshape the negative narrative on short-term rentals.

Participation at the Hawaii State Association of Counties September conference. MVRA Executive Director Caitlin Miller, along with Kelly Lee, Executive Director of the Oahu Short-term Rental Alliance will be panelists at the HSAC conference. Their participation will help ensure the STR industry voice is heard during the discussions.

In the documents below, I've added a letter from a legal firm engaged by Air B&B.  It expresses their opposition to the legislation and states that is likely unlawful.

Please note that this letter is dated June 24th 2024.  This was before the vote by the Commission.

On July 25th 2024 The Maui Planning Commission  voted unanimously to recommend the phase-out of about 7000 of Maui's short term rentals.
